Springfield
History

Springfield is the oldest town in Livingston Parish. It was incorporated in 1838 and was named for its abundant ground water springs. It was connected to the old Natchez Trace and was the site of a Spanish fort about 1800. Springfield served as the parish seat from 1835 to 1872, and its old courthouse still stands.
