Crystal Lake State Park in Barton, Vermont, occupies a small stretch of shoreline at the northwestern end of Crystal Lake and is known for its sandy beach, swimming area, and distinctive stone bathhouse. The park was largely developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which laid out the grounds and built key features including the parking lot, retaining wall, and most of the bathhouse. Designed by architect David Fried, the bathhouse is notable among Vermont’s CCC-era park buildings for blending rusticated local stone with partly Modern styling. Completed by local workers in 1942, the park remains closely tied to its original layout and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2005 for its CCC significance.
