The first Santa Rosa School was built and the school bell installed in 1912 by local farmers, including members of the Norwegian Colony in Conejo Valley. A new school was built in 1947. The site had earlier been a stop on the Butterfield Stage route of 1861, where passengers disembarked to refresh themselves at the springs located there.
