Now the hub of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, King Gillette Ranch was once the estate of King Camp Gillette, inventor of the disposable razor blade. He bought the property in 1926 and commissioned architect Wallace Neff to design the mansion and outbuildings that still stand on the ranch. The ranch's stable now serves as the visitor center. From the 1930s to the 1950s, movie director Clarence Brown owned the ranch and hosted many movie stars there. In the years after his death, the ranch became church property and a university, and today it is open to the public and available to all.
