Lyman Reserve is a 210-acre nature reserve at the mouth of Red Brook on Buttermilk Bay in southeastern Massachusetts, extending across parts of Bourne, Plymouth, and Wareham. Managed by the Trustees of Reservations, it includes coastal shoreline, protected brook habitat, hiking trails, and a beach. The land was once a private fishing camp, reflecting Red Brook’s long importance as a fishing stream. Its greatest significance is ecological: Red Brook, established as a preserve in 2001 and supported by neighboring protected lands, sustains one of the eastern United States’ last remaining populations of sea-run brook trout, or salters, making the reserve important for habitat protection and quiet recreation.
