Shawme-Crowell State Forest in Sandwich on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is a state forest managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Its landscape is marked by pitch pine and scrub oak, vegetation typical of the Cape’s sandy soils. The forest was once larger, but much of its original acreage was lost when Camp Edwards was established, an area now part of Joint Base Cape Cod. Today it serves both as protected woodland and a recreation area, with two campgrounds offering more than 280 seasonal campsites, access to Scusset Beach State Reservation, and over 15 miles of roads and trails for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding.
