This water-powered grist mill, one of the last to operate in Michigan, was built in 1869. Tom Walker and John Browning purchased it for $10,000 in 1878, and the Walker family remained involved with the mill for three generations. A grandson, Tom Walker, took over its operation in 1926 and, until he retired in 1969 and sold the mill, ground grain for no more than seven cents a bag.
