The old burial ground donated by area pioneer Daniel Lee became the final resting place for many of Novi's earliest settlers. In 1844, remains from graves on the Loren Flint farm, some dating from the early 1830's, were transferred to this one-acre site. Veterans buried here include Revolutionary War veteran Hooper Bishop; War of 1812 veterans Joseph Perkins, Cornelius Austin, William Butterfield, and Cornelius McCrumb; and Civil War veterans Martin L. Crane, George E. Smith, Daniel C. Dunham Jr., Walter Abbey, and Henry Moore. In 1873, the property was expanded to 2 1/2 acres and renamed The Novi Cemetery.
