Bullock's Point Light marked a dangerous shoal in the Providence River off Bullock's Point in Rhode Island as growing shipping made the hazard more pressing. The site developed from a daymark established in 1860 to a portable light on a small pier in 1872, then to a staffed lighthouse built on an enlarged pier and placed in service in 1876 after construction delays caused by bad weather. It became especially notable during the Hurricane of 1938, when keeper Andrew Zuius kept the light burning despite severe storm damage. In 1939 the ruined house was demolished and replaced by an automated steel-tower light on the same pier.
