Hayden Bridge is a covered bridge over the Alsea River west of Alsea in western Oregon. Built in 1918 as a 91-foot Howe truss span, it reflects the period when Oregon promoted standardized rural bridge designs that counties could build from local timber such as Douglas-fir. Once one of more than 600 covered bridges in the state, it survived while most were replaced as roads were adapted for heavier vehicles. The bridge was altered in 1945 to allow larger vehicles to pass, repaired again in 2003, and damaged by a logging truck in 2006. Its survival and 1979 National Register listing mark its transition from working infrastructure to historic landmark.
