The Kewaunee County Farm operated on this site beginning in 1879. Nicknamed “The Poor Farm,” it was a place for elderly county residents who were unable to provide for themselves financially. Tenants kept busy by helping with the pure-bred dairy cattle and hogs raised on the farm. By the 1970s, the term “The Poor Farm” no longer applied, as the remaining tenants paid to live there. The building was razed in the 1980s.
