At this location in 1870 George Brackett first came ashore to explore the area's timber prospects, and before 1884 he established a steamboat pier known as Bracketts Landing. George Brackett, who lived from 1841 to 1928, was the founder of Edmonds and its first mayor and postmaster. The City of Edmonds was incorporated in 1890, and Edmonds began as a logging and mill town. About 1900, there were ten shingle mills on the Edmonds waterfront.
