Founded in 1961 in Kingman, Arizona, the Mohave Museum of History and Arts preserves and presents the heritage of northwestern Arizona through history and art. It grew from an archive room in the Chamber of Commerce office into a purpose-built museum opened in 1968, with artist Roy Purcell shaping many of its core displays. Its exhibits span prehistoric times to the present and include Native history, mining, ranching, railroads, local art, and cultural figures such as Andy Devine. Outdoor displays, later exhibit expansions, and a research library opened in 2005 have made it an important repository of Mohave County and regional Southwest history.
