The great fire of 1893 destroyed the Frame City Hotel, owned by John Mar. It was replaced by a brick building constructed by James Lyle in 1894. Lyle and his partner Moses Wagner operated the City Hotel until the 1920s. After that, the building had several owners and was demolished in the 1940s.
