Pizza became a way of life for the Mack family when Anthony Mackrone, known as Tony Mack, brought his Trenton, New Jersey, tomato pie to the Wildwood boardwalk and opened Mack's Pizza in 1953, joined by his wife Lena and their four children, Duke, Joe, Kitty, and Vincent. Moving from Nottingham Way to Wildwood Avenue, he transformed a quietly successful Trenton product into an overnight sensation on the Jersey Shore. In 1956, he gave his cousin Frank Manco the opportunity to join him in Ocean City, where Mack-Manco Pizza began. Six grandchildren followed Tony into the business, learning to spin pizza as they learned to walk, riding in pizza-themed Wildwood Baby Parade floats, pouring birch beer from the barrel at the front counter, and working beside Uncle Joe Mack as he taught them to use the peel boards. Bob Moloney, Tony's second oldest grandson, left teaching for Cape May County and opened another business, Mackrone's Pizza, the original Mack's Pizza, in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. There, between his grandfather's first businesses in Wildwood and Ocean City, Bob continued making pizza for crowds of customers and developed specialty pizzas named for the boardwalks and places tied to the family's beginnings, including the Mack-Manco, Tram Car, Golden Nugget, Wildwood, and Ocean City. Tony Mack's great-grandchildren later joined Bob, helping serve the family's original Mack and Mack and Manco Famous Pizza while working their way through college, continuing the family's pizza legacy.
