Avalon lies at the northern end of Seven Mile Beach, a barrier island, where the Avalon Dune and Beach Trail passes through a unique landscape and ecosystem that serves as a living classroom. The route crosses several biotic communities and offers a glimpse of what Lenape Indians and colonists may have encountered hundreds of years ago when they first visited the island. The trail includes learning stations and features the maritime forest, dunes, and beach.
