Mount Powell is the highest summit in Colorado’s Gore Range, reaching 13,586 feet in the Rocky Mountains within the Eagles Nest Wilderness. Set on the drainage divide between the White River and Arapaho national forests, it rises dramatically above Green Mountain Reservoir and stands as one of the range’s defining peaks. Its height, prominence, and commanding position make it a major feature of the surrounding wilderness and of Colorado’s central mountains. The mountain was named for John Wesley Powell, who climbed to its summit in 1868, and it remains recognized as the loftiest point in the Gore Range.
