Eagles Nest is a prominent 13,419-foot summit in central Colorado’s Gore Range, within the Eagles Nest Wilderness and Arapaho National Forest north of Vail. Second only to nearby Mount Powell in both the range and the wilderness, it is distinguished by especially steep local relief, rising more than 2,600 feet above Cataract Creek in three-quarters of a mile. Its waters split between Black Creek on the east and Cataract Creek on the west, both flowing to the Blue River. In an alpine subarctic climate, it has long snowy winters, short cool summers, and year-round precipitation. Its name was officially adopted in 1968.
