History
1
Navesink was a summer camping ground of the Indians on their Minisink Trail, which later became part of the King’s Highway. It was the site of Burge’s Mill in colonial times and a British campsite after the Battle of Monmouth. In the nineteenth century, it became a bustling center of mills, stores, and taverns, and from 1830 to 1866 it was known as Riceville.
