Cannon Mountain is an 8,652-foot summit in Washington’s Alpine Lakes Wilderness, within The Enchantments and the Stuart Range of the Cascades. It rises from terrain formed by ancient tectonic and volcanic processes about 50 million years ago and later reshaped by repeated Pleistocene glaciations. In the surrounding Alpine Lakes area, retreating glaciers carved deep U-shaped valleys and left the rugged relief, granite walls, and many mountain lakes that define the region. Its slopes drain into Icicle Creek, a tributary of the Wenatchee River. Cannon Mountain’s importance lies chiefly in its place within one of Washington’s most striking alpine landscapes.
