Prusik Peak is an 8,008-foot granite summit in Washington’s Alpine Lakes Wilderness at the west end of The Temple in the Enchantments, within the Stuart Range of the Cascades. Known as one of the basin’s most recognizable mountains, it was named for Austrian mountaineer Dr. Karl Prusik, whose prusik knot proved especially fitting when Fred Beckey used it during the first ascent in 1948 to reach the summit horn. Later routes helped establish the peak as an important granite climb. Its rugged setting was shaped by tectonic activity, uplift, faulting, and glaciation, and its runoff drains into Icicle Creek.
