The Hancock–Greenfield Bridge carries Forest Road over the Contoocook River between Hancock and Greenfield, New Hampshire. Built in 1937 after floods in 1936 heavily damaged an 1852 covered bridge on the site, it became notable as the first wooden covered bridge in the northeastern United States to use modern engineering techniques through a Teco–Pratt timber truss. Designed with Timber Engineering Company connecting elements from plans first published in 1935, it combines the traditional form of a covered bridge with newer structural methods. Its significance also rests on its survival as a working rural river crossing and its recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
