Monadnock State Park in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, encompasses 1,017 acres around 3,165-foot Mount Monadnock and is surrounded by thousands more acres of protected highlands, creating a much larger preserved landscape. The park supports year-round recreation, including hiking, picnicking, camping, backpacking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and some backcountry skiing on lower trails, with two campgrounds within its boundaries. Seasonal access is available at the Old Toll Road and State Park Headquarters trailheads. There are no roads to the summit, and the Old Toll Road is closed to cars, keeping the park centered on foot travel and the mountain setting. In 1987, Mount Monadnock became a National Natural Landmark.
