Thomas Anderson was admitted to the New Jersey Bar as Counsellor in 1765, was appointed the first Surrogate of Sussex County by Royal Governor William Franklin in 1768 and held that office by reappointment until his death in 1805, served as Acting Clerk of Sussex County from 1770 to 1777, and was Assistant Deputy Quartermaster General during the Revolutionary War.
