At Kellogg’s Grove, four miles south of here, two engagements were fought during the Black Hawk War. On June 16, 1832, Capt. A.W. Snyder’s company defeated a band of Indians; but on June 25, Indians led by Black Hawk defeated Maj. John Dement’s battalion of volunteers.
