Farragut State Park in northern Idaho occupies four thousand acres at the south end of Lake Pend Oreille, where forested mountains meet the lakeshore. Its modern history began as Farragut Naval Training Station, a major U.S. Navy boot camp during World War II that trained more than 293,000 sailors before closing in 1946. The site briefly housed Farragut College and Technical Institute, then shifted to wildlife management and recreation, becoming a state park in 1966. Today it offers extensive outdoor activities, preserves naval history at the Museum at the Brig, and holds a notable place in Scouting history through major national and world gatherings.
