Tuscarora Mountain is a long Appalachian ridge in central Pennsylvania’s Ridge and Valley province, extending from the Juniata River at Millerstown southwest to Cove Mountain at Cowans Gap, with part of it forming the border between Fulton and Franklin counties. Its highest point, Big Mountain, reaches 2,458 feet above sea level. The ridge’s shape is defined by the resistant Tuscarora Formation in Pennsylvania’s folded landscape, and its name comes from the Tuscarora people. Much of Pennsylvania State Game Lands 124 lies along the ridge, and near Cowans Gap the Pennsylvania Turnpike crosses it through the Tuscarora Mountain Tunnel.
