After purchasing the bridge from the Milwaukee Bridge and Iron Works for $796, local men constructed it in 1896. It served as the main access to Allenton from the west until the State built a larger concrete bridge in 1920. Local vehicle traffic continued using it until 1973, when it was designated a pedestrian bridge.
