Mount Scott is a 5,913-foot peak in Washington’s Olympic Mountains, within Olympic National Park and the Bailey Range of the Daniel J. Evans Wilderness. Rising steeply above the Elwha Valley, it gains about 4,300 feet in roughly two miles, giving it especially dramatic relief. Its runoff feeds tributaries of the Goldie River and then the Elwha River. The mountain lies in the Olympics’ marine west coast climate, bringing heavy winter rain and snow, wet dense snowpacks, and avalanche danger, while summers are often clearer. Geologically, it formed from obducted sedimentary and oceanic crustal material and was later shaped by Pleistocene glaciation and erosion.
