Keystone Resort developed in Keystone, Colorado, as a major ski destination spread across Dercum Mountain, North Peak, and the Outback, with additional bowl terrain and a broad mix of beginner, groomed, alpine, and advanced runs. It grew from Max and Edna Dercum’s move to Colorado and Max’s effort, with Bill Bergman, to create a ski area that opened in 1970. Later expansions added North Peak, the Outback, newer high-speed lifts, and lift-served terrain in Bergman Bowl. Owned by Vail Resorts since 1997, Keystone also became known for year-round recreation, while its history includes the deadly 1985 Teller Lift accident on North Peak.
