Dudley Farm possesses national significance for its ability to illustrate the history of owner-operated farms in the Southeastern United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. From its establishment in 1881 through the mid-20th century, farmers such as the Dudley family endeavored to produce much of their own food on the farm while also engaging in commercial agriculture and implementing government programs to reform southern agriculture.
