Roseman Covered Bridge
Pop Culture
Roseman Covered Bridge, built in 1883 over the Middle River near Winterset, Iowa, reflects the era when covered bridges were practical, durable parts of local transportation on rural township roads. Set within the surrounding agricultural landscape, it is among Madison County’s best-known surviving covered bridges. Its fame grew far beyond Iowa through its prominent role in The Bridges of Madison County and the film adaptation, linking regional history with a widely known modern story. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and renovated in 1992, it remains both a local landmark and an important part of Iowa’s bridge heritage.
