Roseman Covered Bridge, also called the Oak Grovers Bridge, was built in 1883 by Benton Jones and G.K. Foster as a covered timber Town lattice truss overlaid by a Queenpost frame. Measuring 225 feet long and 15.4 feet wide, with a 104-foot truss, an 88-foot approach to the south, and a 33-foot approach to the north, it was one of the last two covered bridges built in Madison County, along with Cedar Bridge over the Middle and North Rivers, respectively. Both bridges were approved by the Board of Supervisors in 1877 and built in succession in 1883 by Jones and Foster. Roseman Bridge cost $2,930 to build and carried traffic for almost a hundred years before being bypassed by a bridge to the east in 1981. Benton Jones was probably responsible for the design of the Roseman Bridge and strengthened the truss by superimposing a Queenpost truss upon it, creating structural redundancy that helped it remain standing while almost all other timber trusses in Iowa were later demolished.
