This land is the traditional territory of the Chit-dee-ni (Chetco). Land acknowledgements are a way people insert an awareness of Indigenous presence and land rights into everyday life, often at the beginning of ceremonies, lectures, or education guides. They can be an explicit yet limited way to recognize the history of colonialism and First Nations as well as a need for change in settler-colonial societies. A map used for educational purposes is imperfect and does not represent or intend to represent official or legal boundaries of any Indigenous nations, and definitive boundaries should be obtained from the nation.
