Built around the turn of the 20th century, this house was the last residence constructed at Sahuaro Ranch. Although little is known about its residents, it appears to have been built for employees of William Bartlett, the ranch's first owner, replacing an older one-story adobe building called the Men's Quarters that probably dated from the ranch's earliest years. Soon after the house was built, a wood-frame section was added as a kitchen, and in later years it was modified from a simple bunkhouse into a dwelling better suited for the ranch foreman and his family, with a first-floor bathroom, an enclosed porch, and a carport attached to the north wall of the addition. More than any other building at Sahuaro Ranch, it underwent major changes before being restored to its original appearance in the 1980s, when the carport was removed, the rear stairway rebuilt, and the enclosed porch replaced with a reproduction of the original two-story open porch. Dave Brown, the foreman at Sahuaro Ranch in the early 1950s, was one of the building's many residents and the only one historians know by name; he supervised and assigned tasks to ranch employees and was described by Richard Smith, the ranch's last owner, as a "good man with a rope."
