Rock School was built in 1886, when Indians still raided nearby apple trees, and it was Wheeler County's second school. It was built of native stone on a site given by Tom Baley. Other donors were John Brown, Frank Chilton, Mr. Clark, Henry Frye, Bill Miller, J. E. Pior, Fred H. Rathjen, and Jenkins Willliams. The teacher was Mrs. Gil Hodges.
