Cascade Peak is a 7,428-foot summit in Washington’s North Cascades, rising above Cascade Pass on the border of North Cascades National Park and the Glacier Peak Wilderness. Its waters drain into the Cascade River. The mountain stands in terrain shaped first by tectonic and volcanic forces, including terrane accretion and igneous activity tied to plate movement, and later by repeated Pleistocene glaciation that carved steep slopes and deep valleys. Small glacier remnants still cling to its north side. Cascade Peak also reflects the region’s maritime climate, with Pacific storms bringing heavy rain and dense winter snow that heightens avalanche danger, while summer weather is often clearer.
