St. Andrew’s Church was organized in 1834 as a mission by Rev. Caleb S. Ives for settlers coming to the Canebrake from the Atlantic Seaboard, became a parish of the Diocese of Alabama in 1844, had this site selected in 1851, and was erected here in 1853-54.
