First Baptist African American Church in Florence was founded in 1870 by the Trustees of the Colored Baptist Association. The congregation was active for over 100 years and was essential to formerly enslaved people and Freedmen in the area. Trustee and minister George Foster preached his first sermon at the church on December 23, 1877.
