During World War II, Rev. George Fox, Father John Washington, Rabbi Alexander Goode, and Rev. Clark Poling gave their lives while serving on the U.S.S. Dorchester so that their comrades might live, embodying the words, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend.”
