Gabriel Peak is a 7,920-foot summit in North Cascades National Park near Ross Lake in northern Washington. It is notable less for sheer height than for its dramatic rise above the surrounding terrain, climbing about 4,700 feet above the Panther Creek valley in roughly a mile and showing the steep, rugged character typical of the North Cascades. Its name reflects a local Skagit River country story connected to settler Tommy Rowland, who arrived in 1895 and later called himself the “Prophet Elisha,” an association echoed in nearby place names. The mountain and its sharp ridges and deep valleys were shaped by tectonic forces, uplift, faulting, and repeated glaciation.
