This horse hitching post came from the pioneer family estate of Wells and Mary Dew of Hanover. Wells Dew was active in the financing and development of Hanover and also took an interest in politics. Their daughter Edith was County School Commissioner for Jackson County. She gave the post to Fred Savage, a relative of her mother’s sister, Jane Rogers-Mitchel. Fred and Velma Savage donated the post to the Historical Society. Fred believed that the hitching post was at Stoney Point at one time. The original hitching post at Hanover High School was located approximately where the Museum sign is in the front yard.
