Veterans are presented as people who, whether on active duty, retired, in the National Guard, or in the Reserve, at one point in their lives accepted the possibility of giving even their lives for the United States of America. Guided by the belief that all who have given and will give of themselves in the nation’s armed services deserve recognition, the Plumstead Township Veterans Committee worked with Landscape Architecture students from Delaware Valley College to create a place honoring veterans past, present, and future. Its design incorporates the yellow ribbon as a symbol of hope for those awaiting the return of loved ones, honor alcoves for the individual service branches to give a sense of history while looking toward the future, and local native plants and materials to create a sense of place for reflection on the sacrifices made in service to the nation.
