Mount Howard is the 7,063-foot high point of Nason Ridge in Washington’s North Cascades, west of Lake Wenatchee on land within the Okanogan–Wenatchee National Forest. First published under its name in 1887, the mountain stands in a landscape shaped by uplift, faulting, volcanic activity, and repeated glaciation. Its exposed gneissic rock belongs to the Nason Terrane, part of ancient crustal fragments that helped form the range around 50 million years ago. Glaciers later carved the surrounding valleys, especially during the ice ages. East of the Cascade crest, the area is drier than the western range, with warmer summers and snowy, cloudier winters.
