The Westboro Rail Yard was built in 1848 and remained in use until the 1970s, when the Boston and Maine Railroad abandoned it. The West Lebanon station was renamed Westboro to avoid confusion with other stations after a deadly train accident. The State of New Hampshire purchased the parcel in 1998, and since 2000 Lebanon has worked to repurpose parts of the rail yard for public use, leading to the demolition of derelict and dangerous railroad buildings in 2021 and plans for trails and a waterfront park along the river in West Lebanon.
