Winter Quarters of Putnam’s Division
Military
From November 7, 1778, to May 25, 1779, Putnam’s Division of the Continental Army had its winter quarters here. The division included Putnam, McDougal, Poor, Parsons, and Huntington. The men of ’76 suffered here, and their memory was preserved by a monument erected by the State of Connecticut in A.D. 1888, with tribute to the praise their deeds won and the astonishment they inspired in posterity.
