A log hut was reconstructed about 1890 on the remains of a hut from 1778. Although local lore held that the original structure was the guardhouse, its actual purpose is uncertain. Its construction and size provide an approximation of one of the 116 enlisted men's huts inside the park, and each hut contained 12 soldiers.
