Lieutenant Milton Ernest Ricketts of Baltimore County, a United States Navy officer born August 7, 1913, was killed in action aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV 5) in the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942, during World War II. For service above and beyond the call of duty, he was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The destroyer-escort vessel USS Ricketts (DE 254) was commissioned in his honor on October 5, 1943.
