Courtney Peak is an 8,394-foot summit in Washington’s Methow Mountains on Sawtooth Ridge within the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness of the Okanogan–Wenatchee National Forest. One of the state’s higher peaks, it stands in the sharply carved North Cascades landscape, where drainage from its slopes feeds Lake Chelan and the Twisp River system. The region east of the Cascade crest is drier than areas farther west but still receives heavy winter snowfall. Its rugged terrain was shaped by terranes, volcanism, and repeated Pleistocene glaciation. The mountain was officially named in 1985 for James “Ray” Courtney, a Stehekin packer and guide who died in 1982 while leading a backcountry pack trip.
