Gavilan Peak is a mountain in central Arizona, northwest of Daisy Mountain, north of Anthem, and southeast of New River. It is climbed less often than nearby Daisy Mountain because its slopes are steeper. The peak received its name in the eighteen eighties after a battle in the area between the U.S. Cavalry and the Apaches. Its name, Gavilan, means “sparrow hawk” in Spanish and also carries the meaning “hawk” in Apache.
